Paralimni municipality will promote the area as the ideal destination for couples
Paralimni is one of the jewels of Cyprus’s seaside. It boasts a booming tourism industry and has been expanding in size and capabilities for decades.
One of the main attractions in the region is the area of Protaras – a vast seaside resort that is administered by Paralimni municipality. It has been a longtime hit for tourists who are eager to enjoy the sun and the sea and make use of all the wonderful opportunities on hand.
Local authorities of Paralimni municipalities recently presented their vision for the future of the Protaras tourist resort in the presence of deputy minister for Tourism of Cyprus Savvas Perdios.
The municipal government wants to change the perceived notion of Protaras as a typical and traditional “sun and sea” resort and turn it into some more. To that end, they want to focus their efforts on supporting different types of leisure activities, pastimes and entertainment opportunities – such as diving and other types of nautical activities, gastronomy, religion and of course, culture.
Furthermore, according to a study commissioned by the local government of Paralimni, the ground is ripe for the fostering of couples’ tourism. Surrounding areas are already rebranding in that direction, but Protaras would prove even more adept, given the resort is an already popular destination for the so-called wedding tourism.
Most tourists visiting Protaras are married – accounting for some 50% of total visits. Yet 37% of visitors are single – a significant number of people that must not be alienated. That is why the municipality understands that it should not go overboard in promoting couples’ tourism, as that would potentially lead to the alienation of vast swathes of its already existing tourist base.
