Vassil Terziev (Sofia, 1978) was elected as the mayor of Sofia. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the American University in Bulgaria. Initially, he made a name for himself as a successful tech businessman by being one of the founders and CEO of Telerik software company. He ran that business between 2002 and 2014 before selling it to the American software company Progress Software, with an announced value of $262.5 million, which is considered the most successful deal for a Bulgarian tech venture.
Since 2009, Mr Terziev has also moved into the sphere of promoting education and training for the digital professions of today and the future by establishing Telerik Academy in Sofia.
In 2023, Vassil Terziev was picked as a mayoral candidate for the Bulgarian capital by the pro-Western and reformist-minded coalition of We Continue the Change, Democratic Bulgaria and Save Sofia. Following two rounds of elections, Vassil Terziev won the race with a slight edge over his rival the far-left Vanya Grigorova, to become the new mayor of Sofia on 7 November 2023.
