Mayor of Vilnius is Remigijus Šimašius, born in Tauragė in 1974. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Vilnius University. In 2002 he received a Ph.D. from the same faculty. Priorities in its development program are education, infrastructure and debt reduction. One year after inauguration there have already been established 2000 new daycare nurseries plus and introduction of a subsidy for parents wishing to enroll their children in private daycare institutions. Over 10km of sidewalks were renovated in the city, as well as over 500m alleys along the river. The project also includes the introduction of public transport timetables in Google Maps.
