Eric van Oosterhout was born on April 6 1961 in Breda. He grew up in The Hague and in Zwolle from the age of fourteen. After completing his studies of Dutch language and literature at the University of Groningen, Eric van Oosterhout has served in the public sector in several functions.
In 2007 he became Mayor of the municipality of Aa en Hunze. Since March 2017 Eric van Oosterhout has been Mayor of the municipality of Emmen, which is one of the largest municipalities in the Netherlands. He’s also board member of VNG (the Association of Dutch Municipalities).
Eric van Oosterhout has a lot of affinity with education, low literacy and poverty. He would like to contribute to a better situation for residents who are less advantaged. He is therefore also committed to an economically strong and easily accessible region.
