Jaume Collboni was born in Barcelona in 1969. He has a law degree from the University of Barcelona and is a lawyer by profession. His start in the world of politics is linked to the university student movement of the early 1990s. Affiliated with the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC) since 1991, he was a spokesman for the socialist group in the Horta-Guinardó district of Barcelona.
In the last ten years, he has been part of the leadership of the UGT trade union in Catalonia. In addition, he was a member of the Economic and Social Council, from 1999 to 2001.
From 2005 to 2010 he has been coordinator of the Socialist parliamentary group in the Parliament of Catalonia and secretary of Programs and Sectoral Action.
He was a deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia in the X legislature and Secretary of Communication and Spokesperson for the PSC from 2011 to 2014.
He ran for mayor of Barcelona twice (in 2015 and 2019) unsuccessfully, but was then included as a labour deputy mayor in Mayor Ada Colau's team. Following a pact supported by Colau's Barcelona en Comú and PP, Collboni was nominated to become the new mayor of Barcelona in 2023 as a way to prevent the return of ex-mayor Xavier Trias at the helm of the city.
Jaume Collboni is also the first openly gay mayor of the Catalan capital.
