Fredericia is a municipality in the southern part of Denmark. It is famous for its beautiful nature and amazing natural parks.

“Our Nature” initiative

A new project, “Our Nature”, is launched in 2020, inviting all Danes to enjoy the environment and providing them with many opportunities for walks and leisure activities. One good example is Treldeskovene, declared a protected nature park in 2018.

At the same time, the streaming channel DR has broadcast a new series about nature raising awareness and sharing knowledge on what Danes have around them.

In general, Fredericia residents feel strongly connected to nature and often go for strolls in parks and forests. With this initiative, the municipality hopes to get even more people out and about in the green spaces. The area in and around Fredericia offers many places that are worth visiting and enjoying.

The municipality has a separate room (the Green Room) where people can listen to lectures, attend seminars or get acquainted with the various guided tours the get to know the incredible biodiversity of the area.

Walking through the woods as well as along the beaches nearby are only part of the activities under the project. During these walks, people can collect herbs or edible fruit. They also organize special walks for picking mushrooms guided by a specialist. For children, there are numerous excursions to observe wildlife animals such as owls, deer, eagles, as well as crab hunting in the nearby lake.

The project is being implemented with the support of the municipality, the streaming channel DR, the Danish Nature Agency and the network of natural museums. Their cooperation aims at getting the Danes to go out, explore and enjoy nature, learn more about it and learn how to take care of it.

It is worth mentioning other activities initiated by actors such as NGOs, national parks that go in the same direction including:

  • Wild food - taste the nature
  • Danish Relay - a tour of the nature of Denmark
  • Wildlife where you live
  • Nature below the surface – sea nature - our blue desert
  • Night in nature - experience nature during the night

“Our Nature” initiative is a good way to promote a return-to-nature way of life and how people can benefit from it.
