To bridge the digital divide, the EU is supporting France’s “Plan Très Haut Débit” (Enhanced Broadband for All) project. €600 million in EU investment will help to bring very high-speed broadband to the whole of the country by 2022. Access to broadband is vital to ensure balanced development of all EU regions and to allow citizens and businesses to benefit from new digital services.
The EU has thus made it a priority. It has invested over €660 million through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in France’s “Plan Très Haut Débit”. This aims to make very high-speed broadband available to everyone in the country. Covering the period 2014-20, the ERDF funding is complemented by financing from the European Investment Bank under the Investment Plan for Europe. In 2016, this amounted to more than €1 billion.
