In September, Bulgaria will once again join the initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission - "European Heritage Days" (EHD). The motto of the event is "Europe, a common heritage".

Festivals, concerts, exhibitions and much more entertainment

In 2020, Bulgaria will celebrate the European Heritage Days with over 300 events throughout the country. Among the cultural events organized by 86 municipalities are open-air festivals, city celebrations, concerts, exhibitions, competitions, public discussions, educational and interactive games for children and a number of other initiatives for people of all ages.

The colourful calendar of events includes the municipalities: Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Nessebar, Pomorie, Veliko Tarnovo, Stara Zagora, Troyan and many others. A number of museums, galleries, cultural and natural sites will provide free access to their visitors on certain days of September.

The municipalities and cultural sites included in the large-scale initiative assure that all anti-epidemiological measures in connection with Covid-19 will be observed. Despite the difficulties and restrictions, thousands of citizens and tourists are expected to join in the upcoming festivities.

The national coordinator for conducting the EHD for Bulgaria is the Ministry of Culture. You can see the calendar of events on the website of the institution.

This year's edition of the European initiative is dedicated to the link between heritage and education. The aim is for millions of European citizens to get in touch with each country's cultural heritage and share a common concern and commitment to its preservation.

"European Heritage Days - Sofia" on 19 and 20 September

In the Bulgarian capital, the European Heritage Days will be held on 19 and 20 September under the motto "Discover the cultural heritage for life!" The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sofia Municipality and the French Institute in Bulgaria.

As part of the initiative, citizens and guests of Sofia will have the opportunity to visit more than 35 remarkable buildings of high cultural value free of charge. How other European capitals and countries will celebrate EHD you can find out on the initiative's website.
