Waste collection and management is one of the most important policies of the European Union and it is becoming more and more significant for big cities and towns in the different member states.
One type of waste that is very difficult to manage is the kitchen appliances. There are different strategies for dealing with them and their effective and efficient disposal. There are many shops that offer to take your old fridge when you buy a new one, for example. In addition, there are strategies in line to collect such appliances free of charge in many areas of Europe.
Sustainable waste collection of appliances in Trenčín
One good example comes from Trenčín where a special service for waste management of kitchen appliances will be introduced. The project is developed in cooperation between the Municipality of Trenčín and the Association of the electrical appliances producers “Envidom”.
The service can be ordered online at www.zbelektroodpadu.sk for efficient and environmentally-friendly recycling. The disposal does not include only kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, stoves and ovens, but also air conditioners, hairdryers, vacuum cleaners and washing machines.
Smart recycling of kitchen and other home electrical appliances brings benefits to the circular economy concept in Europe and its member states. Materials such as metals, plastics, and glass can be used for the production of new goods. Trenčín sets a good example for other cities in Slovakia to follow suit.
