Barcelona adheres to the global initiatives for sustainable development and in particular – to the European Week of Sustainable Development. For this reason, the City Council and the Barcelona + Sustainable network of signatories of the Citizens Commitment for Sustainability invite all citizens to participate in a series of workshops, visits and activities that will help them to understand first-hand how the city is transforming and becoming healthier and more responsible. Take part in either Walks for sustainability, a Music Festival at the Parks or Activities of the Environmental Classrooms.
The programme in one of the biggest Spanish cities and capital of Catalonia starts on 31st May and concludes on 7th June. There are dozens of events already announced on the webpage of the City Council of Barcelona. From hiking tours, repair cafés and biodiversity workshops to visualizing the sustainable urban transformation of the city together with other members of the community: this is just a hint of what's ahead.
On 5 June, the World Environment Day is taking place globally. This is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. The European Week of Sustainable Development (ESDW) on the other hand has been established throughout Europe with the objective of putting an emphasis on the efforts and progress made in moving towards a more sustainable society on the continent. This year it takes place between 30th May and 5th June.
