EU gives 700 million euros for free Interrail tickets

With € 700 million, the EU Commission wants to motivate young people to explore other Member States by train. The sum is planned for the period from 2021 to 2027. Budget commissioner Günther Oettinger presented a proposal to promote Interrail tickets last week in Brussels. Young Europeans will be invited to get to know Europe, languages ​​and people.

To finance the free Interrail tickets in 2018, the European Commission recently only had a budget of 12 million euros. Estimates suggest that 20,000 to 30,000 young people could take a trip. Upon request, with either the 700 million euros Int. errail passes will be financed totally or partially, the EU Commission did not respond yet. In June 2018, the application phase of 15,000 Interrail tickets will begin for the first time. The ticket allows passengers to visit four other European countries for 30 days.
