The iconic pedestrian boulevard La Rambla in Barcelona is becoming home to a major festival tomorrow. La Rambla will welcome La Fiesta Mayor in honor of Mare de Déu del Roser for six days between October 5 and October 10.
The festival has been organized by Friends of La Rambla uninterruptedly since 1962, every year. These are days when visitors and locals are invited to rediscover the central axis of the Catalan capital through culture, leisure and popular events.
This year we celebrate the 57th edition and again flowers will take on the main role at the event and many of the activities will be related to flower tradition in La Rambla. On Saturday morning the floral action “A flower, a wish” will take place, which consists of filling a huge mesh net with different colored roses. Everyone can participate.
One of the most prominent events is "La Rambla in bloom", in which about thirty emblematic buildings on the avenue open their doors to the public.
One of the aims of the Festa del Roser is to publicize the local architectural and cultural heritage. Guided tours around the routes for La Rambla and the open days are the best opportunities to discover La Rambla and some of its most emblematic buildings and institutions.
All activities are free but with limited places available. Full list of participating establishments available here (in Catalan).
