To protect the health of the riders who are engaged in deliveries from the restaurants to the Milanese every day, the Municipality of Milan distributes 5000 masks and gloves free of charge. The aim of the initiative is to ensure the safety of restaurateurs and people who order ready-to-eat meals.
The initiative of the Municipality of Milan through the Department of Labor Policies and Productive Activities and Commerce began on Tuesday 14 April. The 1000 safety kits (5 masks and 5 pairs of gloves) can be taken at the “Work desk" in Gabriele d'Annunzio Avenue 15 from 9:30 am to 17 pm.
To avoid any crowding and allow for the orderly distribution of the kits, the delivery is organized in alphabetical order with daily quantities defined in agreement with the largest food delivery companies operating in Milan. The procedure is done in alphabetical order of the riders, regardless of the company they work for.
To protect the health of riders, citizens and workers in restaurants
Through this initiative, the Municipality of Milan wants to protect the health of the riders, but also the health of the citizens. The riders are among those poorly protected workers, who risk their health every day, despite the danger of coronavirus.
In the kits, in addition to the vital materials that ensure not only their own personal safety but also that of others, the riders will also find a useful information flyer. The booklet is written in Italian, English, Spanish and French that contains the main guidelines for dealing with the Covid-19 emergency.
The distribution of the masks and gloves to the riders is the first phase of the ambitious action prepared by the local administration to provide other categories of workers with personal safety devices, such as taxi drivers, traders and counter employees. All of them carry out their work continuously on a daily basis and are vital to the functioning of society throughout these dangerous times.
