A new infrastructure and housing project is planned to be implemented in Copenhagen area which upon completion will increase the area of the Danish capital making it significantly larger. The huge project even includes the building of an artificial island around the Refshaleøen area. Some 35,000 people will be able to live there. The first homes will be completed by 2035, however, the construction of the whole new island is planned to take as much as fifty years.
The new island is going to be constructed by using new and also a lot of left over material from other contruction sites. The new urban area will also require infrastructure upgrade, therefore a new tunnel and a ring road will ease the traffic from and to the island. Income from the sale of land and property will be used to fund a new metro line connecting the island with the other areas of Copenhagen.
