The city of Sighisoara, „the most beautiful and well-kept fortified town in Transylvania”, is a medieval town, situated in the center of Romania, at the crossroads of important commercial roads. Its position made the town to an important commercial, handicraft and administrative and cultural center. Nowadays all these are supplemented by its importance as a tourism center, considering not only the interest for the best kept medieval citadel but also the starting point for neighborhood of the city of Sighisoara.

What do you think about a unified platform for European cities and its main objective to make and keep European citizens better informed about what is happening in the European Union? How can the portal be useful to you?

I believe that a unified platform for European cities is a more accessible way to compare and improve good practice on the implemented projects and policies. By informing citizens about the activities of the European Union institutions at local and regional level, the promotion of European policies related to sustainable development and improving communication between local authorities in the European Union is ensured.

The platform is useful because it contributes to the promotion of the institution's activities and projects of public interest, having a direct impact on informing citizens and ensuring an exchange of knowledge with the institutions of the European Union.

What technological processes are implemented in the municipality?

At present, the main economic activities that carry out technological processes in Sighisoara are in the textile industry (weaving and tailoring), the ceramic industry (porcelain, faience), construction (brick), food production, woodworking and mechanical (parts and components for aircraft). The companies that carry out these activities are all privately owned.

Share some examples or good practices of your municipality. How do you finance them?

Tourism is the main economic branch of Sighişoara. Besides the attraction generated by the historical load and the charm of the places, Sighisoara's cultural center profile is complemented by the traditional cultural manifestations, recognized throughout the world. Of these, the Sighisoara Medieval Festival, stands out not only as the longest, but also the most valuable one. During the last weekend of July, the peak of the touristic season is recorded, when the city's population practically doubles, with extremely strong consequences for tourism and its related services.

To support and develop this important part of the Sighisoara economy, Sighisoara is the organizer of numerous cultural, sporting and social events with a positive impact both among locals and tourists. Events are financed from the amounts available in the local budget, dedicated to the culture section and events.

What are the main goals and examples that you intend to develop in the near future?

Among the main objectives proposed are the realization of projects to support the reduced opportunities for leisure of both citizens and tourists. It is also important a project to support the removal of bottlenecks in major network infrastructures and, last but not least, the restoration and maintenance of the Medieval Fortress. Ensuring a decent standard of living, education, health services and jobs is also an important objective.
