No more free plastic bags in Slovenian stores from January 1st. Free lightweight plastic bags will still be allowed at the fresh produce isle or when buying frozen stuff or cleaning supplies. The measure aims to reduce the use of lightweight plastic bags per person from 200 a year to 90 by the end of this year and to 40 by the end of 2025.
2019 brings an end to free plastic bags, with more restrictions to come. Jure Leben, the Environment Minister announced that Slovenia would soon impose a general plastic bag ban. As of 1 January 2019, such bans have been introduced in 53 countries, with varying degrees of enforcement, and 32 countries instead impose a charge per bag.
