The Mayor of Helsinki, Mr. Jan Vapaavuori, revealed the ambitions of his city to become the virtual capital of the world. The city has a significant start-up culture and is already working on a virtual city experience project. Besides this, digitalisation is also a prerequisite for more successful services for the citizens and a better Helsinki experience for tourists.

A number of virtual reality developers joined their forces to finalize the Helsinki-themes virtual content. Virtual tourism is becoming more and more popular globally and foreseeing this trend, Helsinki wants to be at the forefront of the development. The virtual reality themes constructed so far are “Urban Helsinki”, “The sea” and “Design”. The final result will be revealed in December 2018 at the start-up and tech event Slush.
