The “Megavino” wine exhibition is now in the midst of its 19th edition and this year’s host is the Belgian capital – Brussels. This exhibition gathers together some of the largest wine producers in the world to display and offer for tasting their production, inform from BrusselsTimes. At the event, guests will be able to taste different wines from all over the world. They will also be able to taste different foods that combine well with wine.
In this year’s edition a guest of honor is Bulgaria. In terms of wine production it stands next to France, Italy and other large producers. However, Bulgaria’s wine production history is quite turbulent. During socialism, the parcels of vineyards were made property of the state which made production to be sold and exported for a fixed price which on its turn was not a good enough motivation to produce high quality wine. After the regime though, the lands were given back to their former owners who in time turned into competitive producers and started offering better quality of wine. Today, Bulgaria is 18th among the largest wine producers in the world.
