The Slovak city of Trnava, in cooperation with the MAX shopping centre, has been engaged in a campaign to collect the unused and unwanted bicycles of locals. Authorities have been encouraging those who have a bike that they don’t use and don’t need to consider donating it to a charitable cause that will make life substantially more bearable for someone who is struggling.

Helping out in tough times

The “Bicycle for Every Family” campaign has been in full swing for a while now and Trnava’s authorities are now ready to start giving back to the community. If you’re interested in becoming the new owner of one the bicycles that have been donated, all you have to do is send an email over to info@trnava.sk with information on exactly what kind of vehicle you want (the city also offers skateboards, tricycles, scooters and others) and an explanation of why you should get it.

You should also include information about yourself and your household, as well as your current situation in life. If you would instead want to point authorities to someone who needs the vehicle instead of you, you can do so – again by contacting the city government.

"We want bicycles to really reach those who, for various reasons, cannot or cannot buy them themselves. Many people find themselves in unfavourable life situations where basic needs need to be met and there is no money left for a bicycle or a scooter for their children. The collection can help such families, so we believe that the people of Trnava will show their good hearts and sense of belonging, " says Petra Vráblová, the coordinator of the collection for the self-government from the Healthy City of Trnava.

The deadline for applications is 31 July, while those who wish to deposit a vehicle can do so between 3PM and 8PM on the ground floor of the shopping centre.
