Bathing and taking a swim in Copenhagen port is a very popular activity for both citizens and visitors to the Danish capital. Local authorities aim to capitalize on the trend and in an effort to make the pastime even more enjoyable, have unveiled the city’s first specially designed dipping zone, located at Kalvebod Bølge.
The new bathing facility, the first of its kind in Copenhagen, was unveiled earlier last week, on 2 October. In time, it will be joined by a second dipping zone which is expected to be unveiled sometime in the fall. Both of them will be entirely mobile and can be moved according to the expectations of citizens and to answer demand wherever they are needed – for example during events and festivals.
“Bathing in the harbour is and will continue to be something very special about Copenhagen. But it is crucial that Copenhageners have safe places to bathe. Therefore, it is for the joy and benefit of all, every time we can open a new bathing facility. The mobile dipping zone offers flexibility in location, just as it can be used all year round for the extra fresh,” says culture and leisure mayor Franciska Rosenkilde.
The creation of these two dipping zones is the perfect example of what can be done with excess funds that have remained unallocated after the implementation of previous city budgets. The funding used, was part of the surplus of the 2019 budget that was allocated by the parties responsible for this year’s budgeting activities.
