If you are a representative of a city or a region that boasts excellent strategies towards entrepreneurship - we have some good news for you! The application period for the European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) has just been opened and now is the time to perfect time to apply and fight for this high distinction.
The EER is a label awarded by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) each year to up to 3 cities or regions with “outstanding, future-oriented strategies to support SMEs, start-ups and scale-ups”. Furthermore, it forms an expanding network of pioneering territories actively strengthening their entrepreneurial ecosystems, exchanging good practices and partnering up for European projects.
Who can apply to the EER and why?
The call is open to all EU territories below the level of the Member State that are endowed with competences at a political level and are able to implement an overall entrepreneurial strategy. This comprises regions in the broadest sense, cities, European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTCs) and Euroregions.
The label has several key advantages: it gives recognition and visibility to the entrepreneurial strategy and concrete projects of the territory, it helps the winners reach out to important stakeholders and gives a boost to the development of the local ecosystem. Finally, EER provides the actors with access to a network of potential partners for cooperation initiatives.
Entrepreneurship for a green and sustainable future
This time, unlike previous years, the call for applications will have a lead theme: Entrepreneurship for a green and sustainable future. It has been selected because of its fit with the overall policy agenda of the European Union and its relevance to the regional and local levels. Another novelty for the new application period is that the jury may award a thematic EER label linked to the lead theme, on top of the usual EER labels (in total no more than 3 annual EER labels).
Applications are due until 15 April 2020 (extended deadline) by e-mail to email@example.com, addressing the EER team with the European Committee of the Regions. For further information and required documents, follow this link.
