Dozens of children in Montana took part in the #BeActiveTour of European Sports Week

Over 200 children from sports clubs and school teams presented their activities to the residents of the city

Montana welcomed the European Week of Sports with demonstrations in basketball, table tennis, indoor soccer, boxing, kickboxing, chess, dodge ball and tug of war. The sports event in the city was part of the EC's #BeActiveTour initiative.

The event was organized by the Municipality of Montana in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Bulgaria. The aim was to promote sports, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle among adolescents.

At the 'Ogosta' Sports Center over 200 children from sports clubs and school teams presented their activities to the residents of the city. The cheerleaders and dancers from "Dance Machine" at the Municipal Youth Center in Montana prepared a special greeting for the audience.

The Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Project Manager of the European Week of Sports Alexander Georgiev and the mayor of Montana Zlatko Zhivkov welcomed the participants in #BeActive.

"I thank the Municipality of Montana for its efforts to develop sports and promote physical activity. Montana is the city of Yordanka Blagoeva, Stiliyan Petrov, Shihan Toni Petrov and many prominent athletes who brought pride not only to the city but also to Bulgaria. I wish you to be active, to play sports and to achieve even greater success than these champions." With these words, Alexander Georgiev addressed the participants in #BeActiveTour and added that the initiative is becoming more and more popular.

Mayor Zlatko Zhivkov proudly reminded that Montana is a sports city and is happy to welcome such initiatives. He received an honorary plaque from the Bulgarian Ministry of Youth and Sports for the support provided in the implementation of the #BeActive initiative European Week of Sports 2021.

Among the guests of the sports event were also Rositsa Angelova and Daniela Marinova from the Regional Department of Education - Montana. The event was held in strict compliance with the measures against the spread of COVID-19.

#BeActive is part of the European Commission's initiative to promote sports and physical activity among EU citizens. The national coordinator for Bulgaria is the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The project is co-financed by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.

Before the start of #BeActiveTour, the Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Alexander Georgiev and the mayor of Montana Zlatko Zhivkov held a work meeting.

Today, September 30, #BeActiveTour is also taking place in Vidin.
