As part of the National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Mobility of Italy, the county is ready to allocate 3.7 billion euros over a period of fifteen years, between 2019 and 2033, to the transport sector, announced the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
The Plan's resources will be provided on the basis of pre-established criteria (for example, according to the number of passengers and the number of vehicles in circulation) to 3 separate recipients:
- Municipalities of metropolitan cities and provincial capitals with high pollution: to which 398 million euros will be assigned in the first five years;
- Municipalities and metropolitan cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants - 1.1 billion euros;
- Regions: to which 2.2 billion euros will be distributed.
The Regions will receive 2.2 billion euros for the purchase of new ecological buses used for local public transport and related infrastructures, on the basis of the provisions of the National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Mobility.
Renew the bus fleet with less polluting vehicles
The end goal is to renew the bus fleet with less polluting (electric, natural gas or hydrogen) and more modern vehicles. Reducing the average age of the vehicle fleet will support the improvement of air quality, resorting to innovative technologies in line with international agreements and with the regulatory provisions of the European Union.
In the same decree, in addition to the methods of disbursement and the destination constraints, the various rankings are also included. They are related to the attribution of scores and the allocation of resources, as well as those indicators relating to the regions of central, northern and southern Italy. In the allocation of resources, the proportionality criterion with respect to the population residing in the Southern Regions must be taken into account. Furthermore, the allocation provides that approximately 35% of the allocated resources will be allocated to the Southern regions of Italy.
