This summer, the French railways invite us to discover the beauty of the country's regions
This summer the national railway company of France and the French regions join forces to facilitate mobility and promote the regional destinations. The product of this exceptional post-coronavirus collaboration between SNCF and Régions de France comprises a multitude of attractive offers for train travel, such as 2 million tickets for less than 10 euros.
A special operation named TER France (deriving from the name of the regional express transport service), aims to restore the tourist attractiveness of France, after several months without travel, caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The agreement, announced by the organisation representing all French regions on 12 June, previews four main measures:
The partners have previewed a special offer for young people (12-25), which constitute about 40% of the TER travellers. The "Young TER of France Pass" will be available for 29 euros per month (for July and August) and will allow free travel on the entire TER network, instead of only the regions where it is bought from. This will also be offered to TGV MAX subscribers who will thus be able to access TGV, Intercités and TER trains throughout France.
Some 130,000 annual TER subscribers will also see their access to train transport extended to the entire mainland France for the months of July and August. The partners will also produce an interactive tourist map to allow French citizens to discover the places and sites that are within reach of the train and to better plan their journeys.
The coronavirus pandemic paralyzed numerous industries, among which travel. The pandemic, naturally, has had serious repercussions for the operation of the regional trains of France, which have otherwise been gaining in popularity lately, reads the press release.
Hence, the aim of the current partnership between SNCF Voyageurs and Régions France is to restore the confidence and willingness to use this sustainable mode of transport. In addition, the measure is expected to enhance the attractivity of mainland France as a summer tourist destination through a system which allows for as many people as possible to take advantage of the TER service.
The sale of the under 10 euros SNCF tickets begins on June 22.
