Every spring a dialogue about the European Union takes a place in the Parliament of Latvia. It is the "Baltic EU Conversations" — an international conference, where politicians and researchers discuss the development of the European Union. On 5 April 2019 from 09.00 until 16.15, at the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia, the 4th annual Baltic EU Conversations conference will be held. The high-level meeting is organized by the Latvian Institute of International Affairs together with the European Commission Representation in Latvia and the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia, with the support of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at the University of Vilnius.
2019 will be a year of change in the European Union. The focus of this year’s Baltic EU Conversations is Europe Awaiting Political Change. During the conference high-level representatives will discuss how European Union institutions can better help to cope with or adjust to the current challenges. They will explain what the EU’s tactics are in the current international trade environment, and what they should be. The next Multiannual Financial Framework will also be discussed.
