Let’s Join Forces will be distributed in all of the country's schools
On 6 May, Malta’s waste management service WasteServ announced it has created and published a children’s comic on proper waste separation. The comic book Let’s Join Forces tells the story of two characters (Commander Yellow and General Buzz) and follows their transformation into “eco-warriors”.
Designed to help educate children on how to sort waste, the comic will now be distributed to all state, church, and private schools in Malta. More specifically, it will teach children from Year 1 to Year 8 how to protect their environment and manage waste.
The Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli and the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation Clifton Grima visited St Dorothy’s School last week, presenting students with gift packs featuring the comics and a thematic board game.
“The comics offer meaningful messages about proper waste management whilst being extremely visually engaging. This comic book will also help empower children to make changes in favour of the environment as each story conveys various important messages on proper waste management. The board game is also highly educational and, as they play, children will learn about waste management,” shared Minister Dalli.
Similarly, Minister Grima praised WasteServ’s latest initiative, explaining that it will teach schoolchildren an important subject in an interesting and interactive way. Expanding on this, Minister Grima commented:
“We must continue to find ways to make the education we are giving our children more attractive. Education does not stop at the traditional teaching given in classrooms, but it goes beyond that to nurture responsible citizens.”
According to a press release, the Let’s Join Forces comic is part of WasteServ’s waste management campaign “Separate Right, Make our Future Bright”. What is more, it has also launched a website (ecohive.com.mt/kids), where children can read new stories and access other information materials.
This, however, is likely to change soon
