The state will support the purchase of up to 1000 electric bicycles
The Portuguese can receive up to 250 Euros to buy an electric bicycle. The subsidy will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis – the state will support the purchase of 1000 e-bikes. The plan, presented within the 2019 State Budget, aims to reinforce the position of bicycles as an alternative form of transport for many citizens.
Electric cars and other vehicles with low-emissions are already supported by subsidies available from the Environmental Fund, but this is the first time a purchase of electric bicycle to receive state support. To achieve this subsidy, however, there is a fundamental requirement: citizens should state that the main purpose of the purchase is to be used in urban environment and not for sport. Further details and specific rules will be released in the coming days.
