The EIB is supporting the research and development activities of Haldor Topsøe
On 10 January, the European Investment Bank (EIB) revealed that it has signed a EUR 45 million loan agreement with the Danish technology provider, Haldor Topsøe. With this loan, the EIB will support the company’s research and development investments in innovative green hydrogen technologies to accelerate the green energy transition.
In a press release, the EIB disclosed that Haldor Topsøe wants to become the global leader in carbon emission reduction technologies. What is more, it wants to achieve this ambitious goal by 2024. It follows then that it needs financing to carry out research and development activities to produce new catalysts and catalytic technologies.
With the creation of new environmentally friendly technologies, Haldor Topsøe will support people in the move towards renewable energy and the carbon neutrality of industrial operations. Further explaining these goals, CEO of Haldor Topsøem Roeland Baan commented:
“Transitioning society towards clean energy solutions is vital in the battle against climate change. This funding will support our research into innovative hydrogen technologies that will ultimately enable our customers to produce low-carbon products for society.”
According to the EIB, some of the company's most promising technologies are intended to produce green hydrogen, green ammonia, biofuels, and eMethanol.
EIB Vice-President Christian Kettel Thomsen discussed the loan agreement and the operations of Haldor Topsøe, noting that the development of clean energy solutions requires sizeable and sustained investments.
Furthermore, he shared that supporting Haldor Topsøe’s cutting-edge research is of strategic importance to Europe because it will safeguard know-how, benefit economic growth and increase employment whilst protecting the climate and environment. For this reason, the EIB financing will be supported under the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI).
