Oradea modernizes its public transport with European funds

15 hybrid buses will run in the Romanian city by the end of next year

The Romanian City Hall of Oradea announced that it has signed a contract for the purchase of 15 hybrid buses with the supplier Mercedes-Benz Trucks & Buses Romania. The value of the contract is 22,564,425 lei (4, 667 327,21 euros) without VAT with a delivery term of 14 months.

The acquisition is made thanks to the "Sustainable urban mobility corridor Emanuil Gojdu Square - Vasile Alecsandri, Oradea", and "Sustainable urban mobility corridor Emanuil Gojdu Square - Cetate Square, Oradea" EU projects, financed by the Operational Program Regional 2014-2020. On his Facebook, mayor Ilje Bolojan stated that these buses will be running in Oradea by the end of next year.

In compliance with the strictest pollution standards

Mercedes hybrid buses have a length of 12 meters and a capacity of up to 107 passengers: 27 seats and 80 spots for standing passengers. The vehicles meet the strictest pollution standards, namely Euro VI, stage D.

The new buses boast information systems, are equipped with surveillance cameras for passenger safety and include a system for monitoring the number of passengers. These buses are notable for their low operating cost, high efficiency and low fuel consumption.

According to the data sheet provided by Mercedes, in addition to the classic diesel traction, the hybrid technology introduces an electric motor that is integrated between the internal combustion engine and the automatic gearbox. It works, among other things, as a generator to slow down the bus and turn kinetic energy into current, braking and interrupting acceleration.

The buses are equipped with upholstered seats and automatic air conditioning, with large passenger capacity, with special functions for people with disabilities. The 15 new buses that will be purchased by Oradea will be added to the 7 buses (six Euro 6 and one hybrid) that are being purchased from the Mercedes company.
