The Czech city is still considering at what age the tax should be waived
Very soon senior residents of Czech Budejovice will not be paying tax for waste collection, announced the local authority.
At its meeting on 16 September 2019, the city council of Czech Budejovice approved a resolution stating that come 2020 seniors will not be paying for the collection of municipal waste. The piece of good news concerns several thousand older citizens, whose income situation is dramatically changing once they reach the retirement age. Thus, the city wants to facilitate their finances through this social measure.
"We know that even though the pension payment have increased, the tax for the collection of municipal waste is an important expense in household budgets," explained Mayor Jiří Svoboda. The age limit for this measure is yet to be confirmed, however. It seems logical to us that the measure comes into force with retirement age, the mayor continues. As it becomes clear, the city council has discussed different alternatives for the age limit. After their analysis is complete, the city council will propose an update of the decree addressing this issue at the next council, coming into effect on 1 January 2020.
