On Sunday, 30 August, the fifth consecutive edition of the Stara Zagora Marathon will gather elite runners from the country and abroad, informed the municipal website of the Bulgarian city. The race was originally scheduled for 29 March, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was postponed for the end of the summer.
Stara Zagora Marathon 2020 will begin at 8:00 am, in front of the City Hall building. The motto of the competition is "Running as a way of life" and is one of several marathons in the republic, with others taking place in Sofia and Varna on different dates.
The route will pass through Tsar Simeon the Great Blvd., after which the competitors will continue along Nikola Petkov Blvd., and after a U-turn, they will head back to the municipal building. The length of one lap is 10,550 km. The participants in the marathon will run 4 such laps, those in the half marathon will run 2 laps, and those doing the 10K run - 1 lap.
Anyone wishing to take part in the exciting race can do so by submitting an application by 25 August inclusive. Everyone has the right to choose between the three distances - the classic one of 42.195 km, the half marathon of 21 km or the 10.5 km. In this way, more sports fans will have the opportunity to participate in the athletics competition.
The organizers of the event are the Municipality of Stara Zagora, the Bulgarian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, the Leisure Sports Association, the Beroe Athletics Sports Club, the Raketa Sports Club and the Bulgarian Athletics Federation.
Applicants from Bulgaria and abroad are eligible to participate in this year's event in all categories. For the classic marathon, only persons over 18 years of age at the date of the competition are eligible to compete.
