The initiative will now benefit in a new way from a collaboration with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology
Twenty innovative companies will get the chance to receive up to 50,000 euros from a new European Institute of Innovation and Technology call that was launched today. ‘EIT Community Booster – Scaling New European Bauhaus Ventures’ is looking for private sector champions that are ready to accelerate solutions that integrate the NEB’s core values: sustainability, aesthetics and inclusion.
This call is part of a wider 5-million-euro budget for New European Bauhaus activities supported by the new EIT Community from 2021 to 2022. The EIT Community Booster call is open until 17 December 2021. Start-ups and scale-ups are encouraged to apply and scale their venture. A pilot phase of this Community Booster launched in early 2021 has already supported 13 ventures with a total of €650,000.
The EIT is Europe's largest innovation ecosystem bringing together close to 3,000 partners from top business, research and education organisations across Europe in over 60 innovation hubs across Europe.
It is not the first time that the EIT turns its attention to the New European Bauhaus, either. It has awarded grants to citizen-led projects. It has also integrated a NEB-specific focus for the 2021 Climathon – a multi-city continuous event and brainstorming session on finding solutions for more livable urban spaces.
With the new call, EIT has decided to more seriously involve promising start-ups and scale-ups into the goals of the New European Bauhaus in a way that would harness their boundless creative potential. The overall budget is 5 million euros, meaning that the one million euros already mentioned are just the beginning.
Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel said on the occasion of the call launch: "The New European Bauhaus is going from design to concrete results thanks to the direct support to European innovators by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. The initiative contributes to the European Green Deal, but also to our new ambitious EU Missions under Horizon Europe. I look forward to all innovative ideas and products from talented European entrepreneurs for our public spaces and Europe's sustainable growth.”
