The New European Bauhaus Prizes: one week to go, 20 winners to look forward to

The most creative solutions, out of so many proposals, will be revealed at an online ceremony taking place on 16 September

The day of the long-awaited New European Bauhaus Prizes is drawing near. At a specially organized ceremony to be broadcast online on 16 September, you can find out who the 20 winners will be. These are sure to be potentially groundbreaking solutions meant to inspire a comprehensive generation of communities and territories in Europe.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will announce the laureates, and she will be accompanied by Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, and Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel. The event will take place 5:00-6:30 pm (CEST).

Awards for established experts and Rising Stars ideas

The ceremony will be the culmination of a process that begun in April this year with the call for submission of creative ideas in a wide variety of categories, all of which related in some way or another to reinventing our public and shared spaces.

The call fostered a great fervour and interest resulting in the submission of more than 2000 applications from all over the European Union. In order to narrow it down to the best of the best, three jury levels evaluated the proposals.

The Evaluation Committee of the Commission finalized the evaluation process in order to filter the large selection down to 60 nominees. There are two streams (New European Bauhaus Awards and New European Bauhaus Rising Stars) containing ten categories each. Each of the categories offers three nominees, one of which will ultimately grab the prize.

You can consult the categories and nominees on the initiative’s website.

There will be one winner per category from each strand, with the Awards granting 30 000 euros, whereas the Rising Stars will receive 15 000 euros. In addition, the winners can expect a communication package to help them promote their work.
