This week is Climate Adaptation Week in Freiburg

City officials invite residents to meet in person for valuable consultations on greening transformations of their living environment

This week, all of Europe is in the thralls of transportation innovation thanks to Mobility Week. The German city of Freiburg, however, is doing a double whammy because parallel to the continental event it is also launching its local Climate Adaptation Week (18-22 September).

Taking into account recent and worrying developments in European weather patterns, the city officials have decided to urge residents and corporations to take action and transform their abodes to more climate-friendly standards.

For its part, the city administration is offering valuable support in the form of know-how and funding to people and companies in the sphere of climate adaptation of buildings. It invites interested parties to submit funding applications for green roofs, facade greening or unsealing measures to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Climate Adaptation Week highlights

On Monday, 18 September, the intensive consultation week for the city's “GebäudeGrün hoch” (BuildingGreen High) funding program starts for its fourth month with the online evening seminarIs your house already green? Good reasons for greening your home”. There will be information about the positive effects of green roofs and facades, practical examples and everything one needs to know about the application process.

On Monday, 18 September, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Environmental Protection Agency also invites you to a walk through the Waldsee climate district with the city's climate adaptation manager Verena Hilgers. Together with a specialist in vertical greening, she will show examples of successful greening in the district, will give information about funding and will answer questions on the topic.

The consultation week continues on Thursday, 21 September. Anyone interested can get advice on the subject of greenery in the town hall in Stühlinger from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Registration for the funding program and individual greening advice is possible at this link
