The “Find your sport” initiative lets schoolchildren try out activities while supervised by professionals
Valmiera is hosting the third annual edition of the “Find your sport” programme in September – a first for the city and the perfect opportunity for its citizens to become more active. The initiative invites schoolchildren to come to the Valmiera Olympic Center and try out all sorts of sports while supervised by professionals. At the end of the program, said professionals will give advice to all participants – not only on how to improve but also which of the activities will be the best fit for them.
The participating future athletes will have the opportunity to try out badminton, basketball, baseball, football, martial arts, volleyball, hockey, orienteering, athletics and volleyball. The event is organised in different classes with each class being dedicated to a different sporting activity.
According to Janis Sprukts, the spokesman of “Find your sport” “This is the only place in Latvia where children have the opportunity to try sports that they do not have on a daily basis. With this program, we can help children and their parents go deeper into the child's strengths, as they are easier to see and develop with coaches.”
Without a doubt Valmiera was chosen to host the 3rd edition of the event in no small part thanks to the exemplary work done by its local administration in developing the sporting facilities in the city.
