Will the Linden tree from Kopčany be named European tree of the year?

Will the Linden tree from Kopčany be named European tree of the year?

Voting takes place from 1 to 28 February 2019

In the Tree of the Year 2019, Slovakia is represented by the large-leaf linden from Kopčany near Skalica. The contest aims to enhance interesting old trees as important natural and cultural riches that people should protect. The contest doesn't focus on beauty, size or age but rather on the tree's story and its connection to people. The European tree of the year becomes the one with the most interesting story and the Linden tree from Kopčany has definitely a very special one.

The Linden is 235 years old and grows near an old church from the Great Moravia era. The tree and the church protect each other and have withstood the weather for more than two hundred years. The lime with its roots protects the forgotten stories of the ancestors from the Great Moravian Empire and completes the unspoken atmosphere of this archaeologically and culturally significant place.
