Ing. Jiří Svoboda graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Plzen in 1984 and received the title of Engineer. Subsequently, from 1984 to 1989 he worked as a reactor operator at ČEZ. There, until 1993 he was the Head of the PR Department and the Spokesperson of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant.
In 1993 he joined Czech Radio, where he held various managerial functions and in 1999 became Marketing Director of BVV Brno. Between 2000 and 2003, he worked as Deputy Sales Representative at OHL ŽS in Brno.
In 2003, the Czech Radio Council appointed him as Director in České Budějovice. From April 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014, he held the post of Deputy CEO of Strategic Development. From July 1, 2014 until the fall of 2014, he worked as a media advisor.
In the municipal elections in the autumn of 2014 he was elected to the city council of České Budějovice as a no-party candidate of the YO movement. Formerly a Mayor of Budějovice from 21 November 2014 until 29 June 2015, on 21 September 2015 he was re-elected in order to continue his mandate after the elections in 2018 and his vote by the Municipal Council in 15 November 2018.
