The British ranking shows that the top 5 is composed exclusively of European cities
For the second year in a row, Copenhagen took the top spot in the Quality of Life Survey done by the British lifestyle magazine Monocle. The rest of the top 5 is all rounded out by other European cities, with Zurich placing second, Lisbon third, Helsinki fourth and Stockholm in the 5th place.
Many different factors are considered in Monocle's comparison. For example, crime statistics, ambulance speed, number of bike lanes and access to nature.
This year the survey also looked at the change in working life after the coronavirus pandemic, the rise in the cost of living and the desire to breathe more easily. This means that in the comparison, the cities got points for bathing places and fresh air, among other things.
In fact, the Danish capital was singled out for its no holds barred approach to recovery in the face of COVID-19. This is the 15th edition of the annual survey, and the Danish capital has consistently occupied places in its higher positions.
All in all, the Monocle editors have noticed a resurgence in optimism in the cities and among their local authorities, with a spur of energy that shows that they want to do better and to reconnect to social causes and the natural environment in the wake of the long pandemic crisis.
Here are the top 25 quality-of-life global cities according to the latest ranking:
In its entirety, the comparison appears in the July-August issue of Monocle. The magazine's annual comparison, published since 2007, has been made by the magazine's editors.
