El Pleno del Municipio de Alicante adoptó hoy por unanimidad un paquete de medidas que tienen como objetivo mostrar apoyo a la industria turística de la ciudad. Esto se produce a raíz de la decisión del gobierno británico de imponer restricciones de cuarentena a los viajeros que vienen o regresan de España, con la exclusión de las Islas Canarias y Baleares.
Recientemente, el gobierno británico decidió volver a imponer restricciones de cuarentena a los visitantes que regresan de España peninsular. Esto, combinado con el anuncio realizado por el operador turístico TUI de que cancelará los vuelos al país ibérico hasta el 9 de agosto, ha causado estragos en la industria hotelera española.
Las decisiones anteriores han sido motivadas por las crecientes tasas de infecciones por Covid-19 en España, lo que también ha provocado que ciudad como Barcelona vuelva a imponer recientemente algunas de las medidas de distanciamiento social de los meses anteriores.
La vicealcaldesa y concejala de Turismo de Alicante, Mari Carmen Sánchez, sin embargo, está desconcertada por estos actos, declarando que “Alicante tiene una incidencia de Covid inferior a la propia Gran Bretaña, por lo que la decisión no parece justificada con los datos objetivos existentes en la actualidad. Por este motivo necesitamos que el aeropuerto de Alicante-Elche quede excluido de la decisión desproporcionada del gobierno Británico”.
La Declaración Institucional, que es un documento que muestra la determinación de las autoridades municipales de buscar medidas y abogar por los intereses de la industria turística local, también está dirigida a La Moncloa. Se les pide que extiendan el periodo de ERTE hasta el 31 de diciembre de 2020. De lo contrario, podría generar desempleo a largo plazo y los ERTE podrían convertirse en ERE.
Otras medidas que las autoridades de Alicante consideran necesarias para estimular el turismo en el Levante son reducir las tasas aeroportuarias con un 50% y reducir el IVA turístico del 10% al 4%.
