Residents and guests of the Dalmatian city of Šibenik can now taste a unique edible souvenir of the city - a Šibenik Bagatin - a chocolate version of the coin which was first made in the 15th century and it remained in use for over two centuries. In fact, Šibenik was the first city during the time of the Republic of Venice to create its own money, announced the Municpality. One the one side of the coin is St. Mark, the patron saint of Venice, on the other side is featured St. Michael, the patron saint of Šibenik.
Students from the Tourism-Hospitality school in Šibenik have created the edible Bagatin. They have chosen the Bagatin as it is a cultural and historical heritage of Šibenik. For the creation of 350 Bagatin souvenirs they melted 10 kilograms of chocolate. To make the Bagatin mould, the students asked their neighbours at the Technical School in Šibenik for help and it was they who produced the moulds using 3D printers. The whole project was financed by the Croatian Ministry of Tourism.
