Les travaux de construction d'une bifurcation vers Brussels Airport de l'autoroute cyclable F3 entre Bruxelles et Louvain ont débuté mardi, a annoncé l’Aéroport de Bruxelles. Grâce à cette connexion, il y aura un moyen plus simple, sûr et respectueux de l'environnement de rejoindre l'aéroport principal de Belgique. La durée prévue des travaux est de quatre mois.
En seulement quatre mois, les employés travaillant à l'aéroport de Bruxelles Zaventem, ainsi que les voyageurs qui préfèrent la mobilité douce pourront utiliser une nouvelle liaison cyclable. Les travaux ont commencé près de la Heidestraat à Zaventem et, une fois prêts, la connexion reliera l'aéroport de Bruxelles à l'autoroute cyclable F3 entre Louvain et Bruxelles.
La F3 passe par les gares de Louvain, Herent, Veltem, Erps-Kwerps, Kortenberg, Nossegem et Zaventem et se connecte à la piste cyclable régionale 1b à Bruxelles. L'aéroport devient ainsi un élément d'un réseau cyclable plus large. La connexion avec l'aéroport se situera principalement dans le lit de l'ancienne voie ferrée et s'étendra sur environ deux kilomètres.
Dans des circonstances normales, explique la compagnie, jusqu'à 70 000 passagers et 24 000 employés se rendent à l'aéroport chaque jour. Avec la construction de cette liaison avec l'autoroute cyclable, Brussels Airport souhaite rendre le vélo jusqu'à l'aéroport plus confortable et plus attractif afin d'encourager l'utilisation du vélo. De plus, c'est aussi une alternative durable pour le trajet quotidien de ces employés.
La réalisation de la bifurcation est une collaboration entre la Région flamande, la province du Brabant flamand, la commune de Zaventem et Brussels Airport Company.
