Hosting cultural and social events
The Croatian city of Split announced that it will soon boast a new multipurpose hall for numerous cultural and social events. Split Municipality has announced that it has launched public consultations on 2 September as well as a competition for a new multipurpose hall, which will be located in the city center. The new hall should begin operating in late 2020 or in the beginning of 2021. According the Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara there is a strong need for additional scenic and performance spaces in the City of Split. The funding of HRK 3 million for the project was provided from the municipal budget.
The hall is designed as a multipurpose venue and will be able to hold cinema screenings, theater performances, cultural and musical events, conferences and congresses. On the subject of accessibility, a separate entrance through the main staircase servicing persons with disabilities or reduced mobility is also planned. The hall will boast a capacity of 168 seats. It will be located on an area of 435 square meters, in front of the police station building on the Croatian Brotherhood Square (Trg Hrvatske bratske zajednice), which the city purchased for construction years ago.
Thanks to this project, the city of Split can finally offer a brand new venue which offers sufficient space for the organization of cultural and social events hosted by those local performers and visiting artists who are being turned away due to the lack of capacity at the already established venues.
