Los patinetes eléctricos se han convertido en un espectáculo cada vez más común en el paisaje urbano de muchas ciudades de Europa y más allá. También se les ha denominado vehículos de movilidad suave o ligera y es probable que muchas personas todavía no los perciban como una opción de transporte seria.

La web municipal de L'Hospitalet de Llobregat ha publicado hoy estadísticas que demuestran que su policía ha estado tratando a los conductores de patinetes como a cualquier otro operador de vehículos y con una buena causa. El pasado 2 de enero, el Gobierno español ha promulgado una nueva normativa vigente que busca garantizar el funcionamiento seguro de los patinetes en las calles.
Según el informe, la policía de trafico de L'Hospitalet había organizado campañas concertadas en áreas densas y riesgosas que buscaban controlar la forma en que la gente maneja los patinetes. Como resultado, a lo largo de 2020 se habían emitido unas 750 multas por infracciones, como cruzar en semáforo en rojo, conducción negligente, uso de auriculares o teléfonos, tener más de una persona en el patinete o zigzaguear entre vehículos y personas.
Las multas suelen oscilar entre 80 y 200 euros, pero también han llegado hasta los 1000 euros si el conductor estaba bajo los efectos del alcohol o las drogas, o manejaba en contra del sentido del tráfico. Los controles también fueron necesarios debido a la creciente cantidad de quejas de los residentes sobre la conducción descuidada de los vehículos de movilidad suave.
Las regulaciones nacionales ahora han establecido reglas específicas sobre los patinetes para todo el país. No se pueden utilizar en aceras ni en zonas peatonales y no pueden superar la velocidad de 25 km / h.
