Jackson Matthew McConnell is currently finishing his double bachelor's degree in communication sciences and sociology at the Faculty of Croatian studies in Zagreb. His main focus is researching media representation of subcultures and different groups.
He considers that fake news, disinformation and malinformation pose a significant problem to national and European security. Those matters are a particular risk due to their ability to shape the public opinion. He hopes that in the near future an EU program or strategy that encompasses all of the EU member countries will be placed to prevent or slow the spread of fake news and disinformation among people.
Jackson participates in Read Twice – an EU-funded project that targets young people and aims to counter disinformation and fake news by enhancing their skills to critically assess information, identify vicious and harmful media content and distinguish between facts and opinions, thus improving their media competencies.
