A cross-border incubator of artistic talents established in Šenov

The School of Applied arts in the Czech town, which has been educating glass makers for more than 160 years, aims to attract a new generation of artists with a EU-funded project

The Secondary School of Applied Arts for Glassmaking in Kamenický Šenov (SUPŠS), among the leaders in the field worldwide, has been educating glassmakers for more than 160 years. Recently it has launched a new project that is expected to attract more people to get to know the glass industry and practice the art. Hence, talented children will have the opportunity to create items under the supervision of experts in modern and well-equipped workshops. The project called “School and Glass - Incubator on the Road to Life”, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, targets primary school pupils and high school students. "The purpose of the incubator is to capture potential artistic talents at an early age and attract them to study at art schools," explains Pavel Kopřiva, Director of the Šenovská school, as quoted by Denik.cz.

The incubator will be open not only for Czech children, but also for gifted young people from Germany, the leading partner being the Saxon town of Reichenbach. Both parties have already organized a meeting between young people and experts from the glass industry, as well as a joint painting excursion in the countryside, when the students spend quality time in the Czech and German nature.

The town of Šenov is located in the Ostrava-City District, Moravian-Silesian Region with a population of 6385 persons as of 31 December 2017.
