A metro connection between Copenhagen and Malmo to be built by 2035

The metro is of strategic importance for Northern Europe’s hottest business market

The mayors of Copenhagen and Malmö say that an underground train line connecting the two cities – and thereby Sweden and Denmark– across the Öresund strait would strengthen Scandinavia’s position in Europe. The metro is of strategic importance for Northern Europe’s hottest business market and is expected to be built by 2035. Estimated to cost 30 billion Danish kroner (4 billion euros), the metro would be financed by users as well as profits from the Öresund Bridge.

The proposed service would leave every one and a half minutes, with travelling times between the Danish and Swedish cities at 23 minutes, almost half the time the journey currently takes. The Nordic countries now have the opportunity to become a more important spot on the European map.The transport link would provide jobs, better travel times and investment potential.
