Mevo is a unique system of over 4000 new bikes operating in fourteen Polish municipalities which has no analogue in Europe
A new system of over 4,000 electric bikes creates a revolution in urban transport in the Polish province of Pomerania. Following successful tests, it is supposed to enter in operation on March 26th. Despite that many municipal bike systems exist in Poland and the continent, Metropolitan Bike System Mevo which covers fourteen communes from the Pomeranian Voivodship (or Pomorskie region) is a complete novelty for Europe. It will include 4080 bicycles with electrically powered drive, which can be seen around the streets of the City of Gdańsk, City of Gdynia, City of Sopot, City of Tczew, City of Rumia, City of Pruszcz Gdański, City of Reda, Municipality of Kartuzy, City of Puck, Municipality of Władysławowo, Municipality of Sierakowice, Municipality of Żukowo, Municipality of Somonino, Municipality of Stężyca.
The contractor of the project is NB Tricity. Along with bicycle parking stations, a technological base and a special application were created. Mevo is the fourth-generation bike and has several conveniences: for instance, you do not have to park the bike in one of 660 Mevo stations, but quite the opposite. For a small fee, you can leave it outside the station. The position of the bikes is constantly monitored by GPS and GSM. Thanks to electric assistance, cycling is easier and does not require much effort. The app constantly reports the battery charge status. The annual subscription is from 100 zloty (23 euro) for 90 minutes driving per day or 0,10 zl/minute and can be purchased through a mobile app.
