Easing the traveling for locals and tourists alike

SmartZone ticketing for buses is becoming more popular in the United Kingdom. The idea behind this concept is to buy a ticket for a certain zone and use it for unlimited travelling in this particular zone. Depending on your choice, they can be used for a day, a week, four weeks or a longer period of time.

This service is available in the areas of Oxfordshire, Newcastle, Sunderland, South Tyneside, and North Tyneside. These projects aim to improve and simplify the travelling of the people in the designated zones.

High Wycombe embraces the SmartZone idea

At the beginning of January 2020, the District of Wycombe announced a new initiative that will make travelling easier for people in the area. In cooperation with Ariva and Carousel Buses (bus companies) and Buckinghamshire County Council, the District Council has developed and established a SmartZone for buses.

The two bus companies that are part of the initiative will receive a grant from Wycombe District Council at the amount of £124,000.

The agreement will spare customers the hassle of buying separate tickets for the routes operated by the two companies. In addition, they are now provided with the opportunity to go contactless – they can pay with a card either on the buses themselves or on one of the top-up machines that can now be found on bus stations.

The price of tickets varies between £4.60 per day to £55.00 for a period of 4 weeks.

One of the aims of this project is to reduce air pollution. Making it easy for people to travel by public transport will mitigate traffic jams and thus reduce the amount of exhaust fumes generated by cars on the road.  The Wycombe`s Cabinet Minister for Planning and Sustainability also hopes that the service will offer more effective and efficient ways for people who need transport for work, shopping or tourism.

The idea of SmartZone travelling is an example of sustainable transport practices that can be used all around Europe to make people use public transport rather than their personal cars.
