After five years of renovations and modernizations, Nationalmuseum in Stockholm opens its doors again

The National Museum's collection has doubled in size

Nationalmuseum is Sweden's museum of art and design. After five years of renovations and modernizations, Sweden’s National Museum, Nationalmuseum, opens its doors again. The renovations have cost 1.2 billion kronor, and it was the first time the museum has undergone total renovations since it first opened its doors in 1866.

The National Museum's heritage has doubled in size. The collections comprise of paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints from 1500-1900 and applied arts, design and portraits from early Middle Ages up until present day. Some famous collections of works include ones by the artists of Rembrandt, Watteau, Edouard Manet, Johan Tobias Sergel, Carl Larsson, Carl Fredrik Hill and Ernst Josephson. Admission to the National Museum will be free.
