Athens: Graffiti city

Athens: Graffiti city

A new vision for the Greek capital

The capital of Greece might be known for the Acropolis, but now when you enter into Athens what really surrounds everywhere is the graffiti. Nowadays it is difficult to find a corner intact by a graffiti spray.

If you are a fan of street art you can admire the stunning murals to streets covered with personalised tags. It isn’t just the walls: street signs, benches, dumpsters, restaurants and cafes, even the ancient rocks surrounding the Acropolis are painted by spray.

According to the citizens of Athens, the art form is a way to express widespread unrest following the economic debt crisis Greece suffered in the aftermath of the global financial crisis in 2008.
